eSIM compatible phones: check if your phone supports eSIM

Type your model into the checker. It searches 342 phones and tablets from 13 brands, from each maker's own eSIM pages, and the list below adds the region and carrier exceptions the makers state.

Start typing a brand or model, like “Galaxy A55” or “iPad Air”.

  • Region exceptions noted

Check your phone in 30 seconds

Not sure of your exact model? Check the phone itself. What you are looking for is an EID, the ID number of the phone's embedded SIM: if the phone shows one, it has eSIM.

Dial *#06#

Open the phone app and dial *#06#. If an EID number appears, the phone supports eSIM. If you only see IMEI numbers, use the Settings check for your phone.

iPhone or iPad

Open Settings > General > About and scroll down: Apple shows the EID there, with the IMEI and ICCID. An EID on that screen means the device has eSIM.

Android

On a Google Pixel, open Settings > About phone > SIM status and look for EID. On a Samsung Galaxy, the EID is under Settings > About phone > Status, and eSIMs are added in Settings > Connections > SIM manager. Motorola, Sony, Fairphone and HMD phones add them under Settings > Network & internet.

Is it unlocked?

A phone locked to your home carrier only accepts that carrier's eSIMs. On iPhone, Settings > General > About shows “No SIM restrictions” next to Carrier Lock when it is unlocked. On other phones, ask your carrier: it is the one that unlocks them.

  • Bought in China mainland, Hong Kong or Macao? Apple says that in China mainland only iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM, and some iPhone models sold in China mainland, Hong Kong and Macao take two nano-SIM cards instead. Check for an EID in Settings > General > About.
  • iPhone 14 and every later model sold in the United States has no SIM tray, so it runs on eSIM only; iPhone Air has no SIM tray anywhere.
  • To use another provider’s eSIM abroad, your iPhone cannot be locked to a carrier. In Settings > General > About, "No SIM restrictions" next to Carrier Lock means it is unlocked; only your carrier can unlock it.
  • Only Wi-Fi + Cellular iPads take an eSIM. iPad Pro (M4, M5), iPad Air (M2 and later), iPad (A16) and iPad mini (A17 Pro) have no physical SIM at all.
  • Apple Watch is not on this list: a cellular Apple Watch must use the same carrier as your iPhone, and Apple says prepaid accounts are not supported, so a travel eSIM goes on the iPhone or iPad.

77 Samsung models support eSIM: the Galaxy S20 to the S26, every foldable up to the Z Fold8, Z Flip8 and Z TriFold, and some Galaxy A, XCover and Tab models, per Samsung's own pages.

What if my phone isn't eSIM compatible?

First rule out the two things that stop phones which do have eSIM. If yours really has none, you can still call from your browser, or get online through another device with a Bitcall plan.

Check where it was sold

The same model can come with eSIM in one country and without it in another. The brand notes above say where the makers make exceptions, and the EID check tells you about your own phone.

Ask your carrier to unlock it

If the phone shows an EID but won't take an eSIM from another provider, it is probably locked to your carrier. Ask them to unlock it before you travel.

Call from your browser instead

No eSIM? Call any phone in 195+ countries from your browser with Bitcall calling credit. It works over any internet connection, such as Wi-Fi: sign up with just an email and top up by card, PayPal or crypto.

Share from a device that has eSIM

Install the eSIM on a phone or cellular iPad that supports it and turn on its hotspot. Every Bitcall plan includes hotspot, so your other phone, a laptop or the people you travel with can connect through it.

Check compatibility, then pick your plan

Bitcall eSIM plans cover 195+ countries and regions. Every plan comes with 5G where the local network has it and with hotspot sharing, and your QR code arrives by email the moment you pay, by card, PayPal or crypto.

eSIM compatibility questions

What people ask before they buy an eSIM for their phone.

Type your model into the checker at the top of this page: it covers 342 phones and tablets from 13 brands, taken from each maker's own list. If your model isn't there, dial *#06# or open your phone's About screen: an EID means the phone has eSIM. To take a travel eSIM, it also has to be unlocked.

iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and every iPhone since, including iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation), iPhone 16e, iPhone 17e, iPhone Air and iPhone 18 Pro. What can change the answer is where it was sold: Apple says that in China mainland only iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 17e and iPhone Air support eSIM, and some models sold there and in Hong Kong and Macao take two nano-SIM cards instead.

Samsung lists eSIM on the Galaxy S20 and every Galaxy S since, up to the S26 series and the S26 FE, on every foldable from the original Galaxy Fold to the Z Fold8, Z Flip8 and Z TriFold, and on the Note20 and Note20 Ultra (Australian models). Some Galaxy A phones have it only in certain regions, such as the A35 and A36 (Europe, North America and Korea), and Samsung warns that a listed model can lack eSIM depending on the country it was made for. Wi-Fi only Galaxy tablets have none.

Most recent flagships and many mid-range models. Google lists every Pixel 4 and later (and some Pixel 3 and 3a phones), Samsung the Galaxy S20 and later, its foldables and some Galaxy A models, and Motorola recent razr, edge and moto g models in the US. Xiaomi, OPPO, OnePlus, Huawei, HONOR, vivo, Sony, Fairphone and HMD each list their own, often by region: the notes under each brand above say where. On a Pixel, Galaxy, Huawei, HONOR or Fairphone, an EID in the About phone settings confirms it.

Yes, to use an eSIM from a different provider, such as a travel eSIM. A phone locked to your carrier only accepts that carrier's eSIMs, and the carrier is the one that can unlock it. On an iPhone, “No SIM restrictions” next to Carrier Lock in Settings > General > About means it is unlocked.

Dial *#06# in your phone app. If an EID number appears, the phone supports eSIM. If only IMEI numbers appear, look in Settings instead: General > About on an iPhone, About phone > SIM status on a Google Pixel, About phone > Status on a Samsung Galaxy.

First check whether your version was sold without eSIM or is locked to your carrier: either can stop a phone that otherwise has eSIM. If it really has none, install the eSIM on a device that has it, such as a travel companion's phone or a cellular iPad, and connect through its hotspot. Every Bitcall plan includes hotspot.
